Women's Basketball downs Lourdes 69-57

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia women's basketball went on the road Wednesday night to face Lourdes in a WHAC conference matchup.  The Cardinals came in 8-8 overall (5-3 WHAC) while the Gray Wolves entered 7-10 overall (1-7 WHAC).  CUAA played a solid game and came away with a 69-57 win.

Asaria Turman led the team with 7 rebounds while tying Keirslynn Lawless with a team-high 14 points.  Samantha Dorn finished with 12 points.  Alize Tripp and Taylor Leatherman were also in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

 

Keirslynn Lawless opened the scoring in the game with a layup.  Samantha Dorn added a layup as well, but Lourdes countered with 6 unanswered points to take the lead.  Keirslynn Lawless started an 11-0 run in response with a layup and Asaria Turman scored inside as well.  Taylor Leatherman knocked down a 3-pointer and Mackenzie Howe capped the run with an inside basket.  Alize Tripp drained two free throws and a late Keirslynn Lawless basket gave CUAA a 19-12 lead after the first quarter.

Julia Hirt made two free throws to start the second quarter.  Samantha Dorn tacked on a triple, but Lourdes trimmed the lead to 24-21 at the 7:09 mark.  Keirslynn Lawless scored two layups to respond and Alize Tripp knocked down a deep jumper and a layup.  Another basket from Lawless and free throws from Tripp put CUAA ahead 37-26 at halftime.

 

Free throws from Alize Tripp ended a 6-0 Lourdes run in the third quarter.  Strong inside baskets from Asaria Turman and Taylor Leatherman paced the Cardinals' offense with Turman adding an old-fashioned three-point play.  Samantha Dorn and Julia Hirt drove for layups to complete a 13-0 run for Concordia.  CUAA led 52-36 after the third quarter.

Taylor Leatherman drove for a layup to open the fourth quarter.  Keirslynn Lawless added another inside basket and Samantha Dorn drilled a triple.  Asaria Turman continued her solid inside play with three more layups down the stretch.  Concordia was able to secure their lead and claimed a 69-57 victory.

 

The Cardinals will play their next game on Saturday, January 15 at Indiana Tech.  Tip-off is set for 1 pm.
