Women's Basketball falls to #17 Indiana Tech

(Fort Wayne, IN) – Concordia women's basketball traveled to #17 Indiana Tech on Saturday afternoon for a WHAC matchup. The Cardinals entered with a 9-8 record (6-3 WHAC) while the Warriors came in 17-2 (9-1 WHAC). CUAA kept the game close throughout, but Indiana Tech maintained their lead for a 74-63 win.

Asaria Turman led the team with 19 points. Taylor Leatherman came in second with 14 points. Alize Tripp was third with 10 points. Keirslynn Lawless had a team-high 6 rebounds while adding 2 points.

 

Alize Tripp opened scoring with a 3-pointer. After Indiana Tech answered with a 6-0 run, layups from Asaria Turman and Taylor Leatherman put the Cardinals back in front. Izzy Viau knocked down two triples and Alize Tripp drove for a layup as Concordia looked to hold their lead. However, the game would be tied 15-15 after the first quarter.

Indiana Tech took the lead with an early 3-pointer, but Asaria Turman countered with a basket in the paint. Mackenzie Howe also converted inside and Julia Hirt added two free throws. Howe and Keirslynn Lawless scored in the paint and Taylor Leatherman drove for two layups late in the quarter. Lawless made a strong block in the final seconds and CUAA trailed 36-29 at halftime.

 

Asaria Turman ended a 7-0 Indiana Tech run with an inside basket in the third quarter. Turman added two free throws and both Alize Tripp and Mackenzie Howe added jumpers. Taylor Leatherman drained free throws and Howe scored inside. CUAA trailed 54-42 after the third quarter.

Asaria Turman scored in the paint to open the fourth quarter. Turman added a jumper and triples from Alize Tripp and Taylor Leatherman pulled the Cardinals within single digits with a 60-52 Warriors lead. Asaria Turman continued to convert inside, but Indiana Tech responded with baskets to stay in the lead. Despite a late drive from Samantha Dorn the Cardinals fell 74-63.

 

Concordia will return to action this Monday, January 17 with a rescheduled game against UNOH. Tip-off is at 5:30pm.
