Women's Basketball falls at Rochester

(Rochester, MI) – Concordia women's basketball traveled to Rochester on Saturday afternoon for a critical WHAC matchup.  The Cardinals entered 16-10 overall (12-5 WHAC) while the Warriors came in 18-7 (13-3 WHAC).  CUAA held a 9-point lead at halftime, but Rochester rallied in the second half to claim a 73-65 win.

Taylor Leatherman had a team-high 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Alize Tripp recorded 16 points.  Keirslynn Lawless had the next-highest total with 9 points.

 

Keirslynn Lawless opened scoring with the game's first basket.  Alize Tripp made two early layups and Zaria Mitchner scored inside as well.  Samantha Dorn and Tripp drained 3-pointers and CUAA held a 15-8 lead after the first quarter.

Zaria Mitcher had a layup for the first second-quarter basket.  Keirslynn Lawless scored inside and Taylor Leatherman knocked down a jumper.  Julia Hirt got on the scoresheet with a jumpshot and a layup, prompting a Rochester timeout with CUAA ahead 25-12.  Asaria Turman and Izzy Viau scored inside and Julia Hirt drilled a triple late in the quarter.  Concordia led 34-25 at halftime.

 

Alize Tripp and Taylor Leatherman drained 3-pointers to start the third quarter.  However, Rochester used a 15-0 run to tie the game 40-40.  Keirslynn Lawless put the Cardinals back ahead with a layup, but the Warriors continued to lead.  Alize Tripp made another triple but CUAA trailed 52-47 after the third quarter.

Alize Tripp opened the fourth quarter with a free throw.  Taylor Leatherman went on a personal 8-0 run with an "and-1", a 3-pointer and a jumpshot to tie the game 56-56.  Rochester reclaimed the lead although Zaria Mitchner added two free throws.

Free throws from Alize Tripp and Samantha Dorn along with a layup from Tripp trimmed the deficit to 64-63 with 1:32 to play.  However, Rochester made their free throws to secure a 73-65 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will return home on Wednesday, February 16 to host UNOH at 5:30pm.
