Women's Basketball overpowers Cleary, 78-39

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted Cleary on Saturday afternoon in a WHAC conference matchup. The Cardinals pulled ahead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 78-39 rout, moving to 9-0 in WHAC play.

McKenzie Maciejewski led the team with 11 points. Angelina Haisha and Taylor Leatherman were tied for second with 9 points apiece. Ellery Baker had a team-high 8 rebounds along with 5 points.

 

 

Abby Long hit a triple for Concordia's first basket. Taylor Leatherman made a 3-pointer and Long added free throws to help the Cardinals gain their lead. Emily McCalla finished an "and-1" and Mckenzie Maciejewski knocked down a triple. Taylor Leatherman and Braylynn Haines added baskets to give CUAA an 18-11 lead after the first quarter.

Julia Hirt drained free throws a couple of minutes into the second quarter. Jess Andrew chipped in two baskets for the team along with free throws later in the quarter. Julia Hirt and Abby Long knocked down 3-pointers and Ellery Baker converted a layup. CUAA held a 41-17 lead at halftime.

 

Ellery Baker scored early in the third quarter. Mckenzie Maciejewski nailed a 3-pointer and both Emily McCalla and Ellie Kallner added baskets. Maciejewski finished an "and-1", Jess Andrew made a jumper, and Hannah Vallier drained two free throws. CUAA led 57-24 after the third quarter.

Taylor Leatherman drove to the basket for an early layup in the fourth quarter. Braylynn Haines converted inside and Angelina Haisha began to catch fire with three triples down the stretch for Concordia. Ellie Kallner and Abby Pasinos also knocked down shots from behind the arc as well, pacing CUAA to a 78-39 victory.

 

Concordia will travel to Aquinas this Wednesday at 5:30pm.
