Women's Basketball stalls the Racers on Wednesday, 62-49

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball returned home on Wednesday night to host UNOH. The Cardinals pulled ahead in the first quarter and swept the season series with a 62-49 win.

Abby Long led the team with 22 points. Taylor Leatherman finished second with 18 points and a team-high 14 rebounds. Emily McCalla came in third with 7 points.

 

Taylor Leatherman opened the scoring with a layup. Abby Long drove to the hoop and Jess Andrew drained free throws early on. Taylor Leatherman started a 10-0 run with a layup and Emily McCalla continued the momentum with free throws and a layup inside. Leatherman nailed a triple and Ellery Baker converted a layup late in the quarter. CUAA led 20-9 after the 1st.

Abby Long made two free throws early in the second quarter. Long added a 3-pointer and Braylynn Haines knocked down free throws to extend the lead. UNOH slowly chipped away and trimmed the lead to 30-24 with 1:56 to play. Abby Long added a late jumper and CUAA held a 32-26 advantage at halftime.

 

Chloe Bisballe scored inside off a feed from Abby Long to start the third quarter. Ellery Baker used the high glass to convert a layup, and Emily McCalla and Taylor Leatherman also scored. Jess Andrew drained free throws and Abby Long hit a midrange jumper to keep the Cardinals in front. A late triple from Taylor Leatherman put CUAA ahead 47-37 after the 3rd.

Abby Long nailed three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to pull the team ahead by double digits. Julia Hirt added a jumper and Taylor Leatherman drilled a triple. Izzy Hadley added a free throw down the stretch and CUAA claimed the 62-49 win.

 

Concordia will head to CIT this Friday to face Concordia-Nebraska in the first round. The game will have a 2 PM EST tip-off.
