Women's Basketball tops Lourdes 68-56

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's basketball hosted Lourdes on Wednesday night in a WHAC matchup. The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead and weathered a late run by the Gray Wolves to pick up a 68-56 win.

Taylor Leatherman's double-double led the team with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Abby Long came in second with 17 points. Alexx Braddock (14) and Julia Hirt (10) were also in double figures.

 

Alexx Braddock started a 10-0 opening run with a layup. Taylor Leatherman drained a pair of 3-pointers and another basket from Braddock capped the run. Emily McCalla scored inside and Jess Andrew added a pair of layups to pace the offense. CUAA led 16-10 after the first quarter.

Taylor Leatherman had a free throw early in the second quarter. Alexx Braddock continued her strong play inside with a layup and an "and-1". Julia Hirt made a steal and drove to the hoop and Abby Long chipped in a basket and an old-fashioned three-point play. Long added a jumper and CUAA held a 32-26 lead at halftime.

 

Abby Long had a layup and a triple to start the third quarter. Taylor Leatherman added a pair of baskets as well to keep the Cardinals in front. Abby Long scored inside off a feed from Leatherman to put CUAA ahead 43-34 after the third quarter.

Alexx Braddock had an inside basket to start the fourth quarter. Lourdes continued to hang around, trimming the led to 48-44 with 6:44 to play. Chloe Bisballe banked in a basket and Julia Hirt drained free throws. After Lourdes got within 3 points, Taylor Leatherman nailed a triple and both Julia Hirt and Leatherman added free throws.

Julia Hirt, Taylor Leatherman, and Abby Long all made free throws down the stretch to keep Concordia in front. A late basket from Alexx Braddock gave CUAA a 68-56 win.

 

Concordia will travel to Cornerstone this Saturday at 1pm.
