Women's Basketball rounds out regular season with OT win against Aquinas on Senior Day

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia women's basketball hosted Aquinas on Saturday as the team celebrated Senior Day. Prior to the game, the team honored their four senior members: Angelina Haisha, Izzy Viau, Mckenzie Maciejewski, and Taylor Leatherman. The game required overtime but the Cardinals came away victorious 79-75.

Abby Long led all scorers with 35 points. Taylor Leatherman finished second with 19 points. Alexx Braddock led the team with 10 rebounds.

 

Abby Long opened the scoring with a triple. Mckenzie Maciejewski hit a 3-pointer and Long added another shot from behind the arc. Taylor Leatherman converted a layup and Julia Hirt knocked down a jumper. Baskets from Taylor Leatherman and Abby Long put CUAA up 17-16 after the first quarter.

A 3-pointer from Abby Long opened the scoring in the second quarter. Taylor Leatherman and Long nailed triples as the lead shifted between the teams. Ellery Baker scored inside and Jess Andrew added a free throw. CUAA trailed 33-31 at halftime.

 

Alexx Braddock made a layup to tie the game early in the third quarter. Braddock and Ellery Baker scored inside and Taylor Leatherman drained two game-tying free throws. Abby Long hit a go-ahead triple and continued to lead the offense during the quarter. An "and-1" from Alexx Braddock gave CUAA a 52-51 lead after the third quarter.

Abby Long had the first Cardinal basket in the fourth quarter. Taylor Leatherman had the team's next 10 points including two triples. Abby Long made two 3-pointers as the game remained tense in the final minute. Aquinas tied the game 70-70 and the contest headed to overtime.

A triple from Abby Long opened the scoring in the extra frame. Jess Andrew and Alexx Braddock made free throws to keep the team in front. Andrew added a clutch mid-range jumper and Ellie Kallner had a free throw in the final seconds for a dramatic finish with CUAA claiming the 79-75 win.

 

Concordia will host Lourdes in the WHAC quarterfinal this Wednesday at 7 pm
