WHAC QUARTERFINAL PREVIEW: Women's Basketball set to host matchup against Lourdes

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals women's basketball team heads into the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) tournament on Wednesday evening as they will play host to the #6 Lourdes Gray Wolves.

ABOUT THE GRAY WOLVES

Tandy Bradford's Gray Wolves make their second straight appearance in the WHAC playoffs after a 12-15 season overall and a 10-12 WHAC record. The Gray Wolves won their final two regular-season games in order to claim the #6 seed in the tournament. 

 

Three Gray Wolves average over 10 points a game as they are led by Emma Pedroza at 12.1 points per game, followed by Macie Stringfellow and Shae Pedroza at 10.8 and 10.2 points a game. 

 

Stringfellow is 11th in the WHAC this season in rebounding as she averages 8.0 per game. Nakiya Sigman leads the team in assists at 2.3 a game.

 


ABOUT THE CARDINALS

Elyse Schlump is in her second season as the Head Coach of the Cardinals and has guided the team to a 19-9 record overall and 17-5 in WHAC play. The Cardinals closed out the regular season with a 79-75 overtime win against Aquinas. CUAA is making the 9th straight appearance in the WHAC Tournament, dating back to the 2014-2015 season. 

 

The Cardinals are led by Abby Long and Taylor Leatherman who average 17.2 and 14.6 points per game. Alexx Braddock and Julia Hirt each average over 6 points a game as well. 

 

Leatherman, Braddock, and Ellery Baker top the leaderboard for the team in rebounds averaging 8.2, 6.5, and 5.2 per game. Long is sitting at 3rd in the WHAC for the most assists per game with 4.3. 

 


IN CASE YOU MISSED IT (PREVIOUS MATCHUPS)

The Cardinals and Gray Wolves have gone up against each other twice this season with Concordia winning by a combined 13 points. The December 16 game saw the Cardinals edge out a 49-48 win on the road and the home game on January 31 saw CUAA win 68-56.

 

CUAA has won 25 of the 27 games all-time in the series dating back to 2011.
