Women's Hockey falls in weekend series to Aquinas

The women's ice hockey team was back in action this weekend, facing off with cross state rival Aquinas in a home-and-home series. The Cards battled in both contests, but eventually fell to the Saints to drop the weekend series.

Game 1 -- Aquinas 4, Concordia 1

Aquinas picked up the first three goals of the contest, holding a 3-0 lead with less than 8 mintues to go in the second frame. Mackenzie Smith would fire home an unassisted goal late in the middle period, though, cutting the lead to two.

Aquinas would respond with a massive push, however, outshooting the Cards 11-2 in the third period and adding on another goal to finish the game with a 4-1 victory.

Molly Burks was solid in her first career collegiate start, recording 25 saves in the loss.

Game 2 -- Aquinas 6, Concordia 0

Aquinas would continue their push in the second game. Following a scoreless first, the Saints would take advantage of several powerplay opportunites in the second period, outshooting Concordia 21-5 in the frame and scoring 3 goals.

The Cards pushed back in the third, outshooting the Saints 12-10 in the period and creating several great opportunities. The Aquinas defense would hold strong, though, shutting out CUAA and adding on 3 goals in the final 3 minutes to extend their winning margin.

Molly Burks made 38 saves in the defeat.

The Cardinals will look to bounce back next week as they host Lake Superior State in a two-game series. Game one is set for Friday at 9pm at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea, MI.
