Women's Hockey drops series opener at Minnesota

(Minneapolis, MN) – Concordia women's hockey traveled to the University of Minnesota on Saturday night to begin a 2-game weekend series. The Cardinals fought back from an early 1-0 deficit when Mallory Collins tied the game in the second period, but the Golden Gophers pulled away for a 7-1 win.

 

Molly Burks played a complete game in net, making 24 saves. The majority of the first period was scoreless with both teams receiving one penalty. Minnesota scored with just over a minute left to take a 1-0 lead after the first period.

In the second period, Mallory Collins tied the game just under 4 minutes in with Makayla Steinmetz drawing the assist. However, the Golden Gophers took the lead on the powerplay later on and led 2-1 after the second period.

Minnesota began to find their rhythm on offense with five more goals in the third period. The Cardinals would fall by a final score of 7-1.

 

Concordia will play game 2 of the weekend series at Minnesota tomorrow with puck drop at 11am.
