Women's Hockey comes up short in first game at Penn State

(State College, PA) Concordia Women's Hockey took to the road for an away CCWHA contest against the Lady Ice Lions of Penn State University. A big second period for Penn State proved to be the difference, as the Cardinals came up short, 8-4.

Makayla Steinmetz led Concordia with a pair of goals on the game. Eva Kingston and Molly Burks shared time between the pipes, accumulating 29 saves together.

Penn State drew first blood with a goal five minutes into the game, but Concordia bounced back quickly, responding with two goals of their own to take the lead. The first was netted by Makayla Steinmetz just over two minutes after the Ice Lions' goal to even up the game. Tiffany Jentz then scored to put Concordia up a goal five minutes later. Penn State was able to equalize before the end of the first period.

The Ice Lions' Katherine Willey scored a pair of power play goals to not only give Penn State the lead, but complete a hat trick. Penn State tacked on another before the second intermission to outscore the Cardinals 3-0 in the second period. It was at this point that Eva Kingston, who would ultimately be credited with the loss, was pulled from goal and replaced with Molly Burks.

Both sides scored a goal in the first five minutes of the third, with Sienna Basile netting Concordia's. Penn State then added on another two goals, including a short handed goal to cushion their lead. Concordia had three power play opportunities in the third period, but were unable to convert any of them. In the final minute of play, Makayla Steinmetz scored her second goal of the day, but it was too little too late as Penn State would come away with the 8-4 victory.

Concordia will have a rematch against the Lady Ice Lions Saturday, November 4th. Puck drop is set for 8:15 AM at the Pegula Ice Arena.
