Collins' hat trick lifts Women's Hockey past Penn State

(State College, PA) Concordia Women's Hockey returned to the ice for a second matchup at Penn State Saturday morning. After coming up short Friday night, the Cardinals responded with an 8-3 victory over the Lady Ice Lions.

Rose Lennon started between the pipes for Concordia, and recorded 36 saves. Mallory Collins netted a hat trick, with Emma Shore and Grace Dodgson both scoring two a piece.

Grace Dodgson put the Cardinals on the board first with a goal just under seven minutes in. Penn State equalized later in the first, but Mallory Collins responded with her first to give Concordia the lead heading into the first intermission.

Julie McLaughlin found the back of the net on an unassisted goal early in the second period to increase the Cardinal lead. Penn State answered back with a goal halfway through the period, but Concordia finished the period with a pair of power play goals. Mallory Collins and Emma Shore each found their way past the Ice Lions goaltender to extend Concordia's advantage.

Emma Shore tacked on her second goal shortly into the third period. Just over a minute later, on a power play opportunity Mallory Collins completed the hat trick off of Emma Shore's assist. Penn State scored their final goal with seven minutes remaining, and gave up a short handed goal to Grace Dodgson within the final minute.

The Cardinals will be back at Davenport on Friday, November 17th. Puck drop is set for 2:30 PM at the Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids.
