Women’s Hockey picks up second consecutive win with a 1-0 shutout at Davenport

(Grand Rapids, MI) Concordia Women's Ice Hockey team traveled to Grand Rapids to take on Davenport at Patterson Ice Center, who lost to the Cardinals last year in both their meetings, on Friday November 17th at 2:30 pm and was able to come away with the victory 1-0. With the victory it puts the Cardinals at an overall record of 3-8 and 2-5 in CCWHA play. Not only was this their second straight win in a row but this also makes it three wins in their last four games.

The beginning of the game was pretty quiet until the 13th minute when Alyssa Buzar from Davenport got the first infraction for tripping. This first infraction led to four more with two from each team. Both teams had some chances to get the first goal of the game but neither team could get the puck past the goaltender. Even when Concordia or Davenport had a power play because of the infractions they still couldn't convert on those opportunities. Concordia had a total of 13 shots while Davenport had six. At the end of the first period, it was scoreless at 0-0.

As both teams were hoping for something to change in the second period it was still the same with Concordia and Davenport both having chances to score and neither could convert. There was only one infraction in this period and it was by Grace Dodgson of Concordia in the final minute of the period. Unlike last year where Concordia won both matchups against Davenport scoring eight goals in both of them scoring at ease, in this game they just couldn't find the net even with some great opportunities to score. After that infraction the second period ended with the score being 0-0 still.

The third period started the same way with the Cardinals and Davenport both struggling to score until the 11th minute where Sienna Radles of Davenport got a major infraction from checking someone from behind. This infraction was for five minutes which set up a huge power play for Concordia to put them in great position to score the game's first goal. In the final minute of the power play it was Emma Shore from Concordia in the 16th minute that finally got one past Dayna Templeton of Davenport for the first goal and only goal of the game. In the last four minutes of the game Davenport was unable to tie the game up and Concordia came away with the win 1-0.

Concordia's leader in goals was Emma Shore who had one, and leader in assists was Sienna Basile who had one. Concordia had a total of 12 penalty minutes with six infractions, and had 47 total shots. Concordia's goalkeeper Rose Lennon had a shutout with 12 saves against 12 shots.

Davenport had no goals or assists. They had a total of 19 penalty minutes with eight infractions, and had 12 total shots. Davenport's goalkeeper Dayna Templeton had 46 saves against 47 shots.

Concordia will look to make it three games in a row when they host Davenport at home on November 18th. Puck drop is set for 5:00 PM at the Arctic Edge.
