Women's Hockey tops Lake Superior State 2-1

(Canton, MI) – Concordia women's hockey hosted Lake Superior State at the Arctic Edge on Friday night to start a weekend series. The Cardinals turned in a solid performance and secured a 2-1 victory on the night.

 

Rose Lennon played a complete game in net with 17 saves. Concordia got on the board first with a 3-on-1 opportunity just over 9 minutes into the period. Lauren Benoit was able to slide a pass over to Makayla Steinmetz who scored on a quick wristshot. CUAA outshot the Lakers 14-2 in the first period and held a 1-0 lead heading to the break.

Lake Superior State tied the game with a goal in the second period. The Cardinals responded in the final minutes of the period when Grace Dodgson scored an unassisted goal on a sharp angle from the side of the net. CUAA held a 2-1 advantage going into the second intermission.

Concordia killed off a penalty to begin the third period. The Cardinal defense remained strong with Rose Lennon making a critical pad save with just over 7 minutes to play. Lake Superior State pulled their goalie for the extra attacker in the final minutes, but the Cardinals held on to secure the 2-1 win.

 

Concordia will celebrate Senior Day tomorrow when they host Lake Superior State again at 3:30pm.
