Women's Hockey falls in high-scoring contest with #10 UM Dearborn

(Canton, MI) – Concordia women's hockey hosted #10 UM-Dearborn to start a 2-game weekend series on Friday night. The Cardinals kept fighting and pushed the Wolverines to the end, but the team fell 5-3.

 

Rose Lennon played a complete game in net with 23 saves. UM-Dearborn struck first with two powerplay goals to go ahead 2-0. The Cardinals broke the shutout when Grace Dodgson found the back of the net with an assist to Azuray Kepler. The Wolverines added another goal and led 3-1 after the first period.

Both netminders held strong in the second period with no scoring. The Cardinals outshot the Wolverines 10-9 while both killing a penalty and getting a powerplay chance.

UM-Dearborn scored again in the third period, but the Cardinals responded with a powerplay goal of their own. Mallory Collins rifled a shot from the point with assists to Grace Dodgson and Sara Kaczmarek. Both teams traded goals again with Sara Kaczmarek tipping a shot in front of the net assisted by Emma Shore and Mallory Collins.

The Cardinals kept pressing in the final minutes with another powerplay opportunity, but the Wolverines hung on for the 5-3 win.

 

Concordia will travel to UM-Dearborn tomorrow at 3:00pm to wrap up the series.
