Women's Hockey surges past Aquinas with pair of third period goals

(Bryon Center, MI) Concordia Women's Hockey travelled to Aquinas Friday evening for a CCWHA matchup against the Saints. Aquinas went ahead in both of the first two periods, only for the Cardinals to equalize. A pair of Cardinal goals in the third period proved to be the difference as Concordia won the game 4-2.

Rose Lennon was the starting goaltender for Concordia and saved 13 of the 15 shots she faced in the win. Neither team was able to bag a goal in the first ten minutes of action until Maeva Lichtensteiger broke through to give Aquinas the first lead of the game. Five minutes later Makayla Steinmetz buried a pass from Grace Dodgson to even things up heading into the first intermission.

Aquinas reclaimed the lead with a power play goal by way of Lauryn Wood in the second. Once again, the Cardinals answered back five minutes later when Julie McLaughlin netted a goal.

Concordia earned their first lead of the game when Grace Dodgson scored halfway into the third period. A few minutes later Makayla Steinmetz scored her second goal of the day, with the insurance goal coming on a power play opportunity.

The two sides will square off again on Saturday with an 8:00 PM puck drop at the Arctic Edge.
