Kingston shuts out Aquinas in Women's Hockey's 4-0 victory

(Ann Arbor, MI) Concordia Women's Hockey took to their home ice one final time for the season when they hosted the Saints from Aquinas Saturday evening. The Cardinal defense held the Saints at bay, with Eve Kingston earning the shutout in the 4-0 victory.

Eva Kingston started in between the pipes for Concordia and stopped 15 shots for her first collegiate shutout. Grace Dodgson got things started when she intercepted a pass and chipped it over the Aquinas goaltender in the top left corner to put Concordia up. Both sides successfully killed a penalty late in the second period to keep it 1-0 heading into the first intermission.

Skylar Croft was able to slot in Concordia's second goal of the game early on in the second to increase their lead. Similarly to the first period, both teams killed a penalty later on to maintain a 2-0 score.

Concordia opened up the third period with a pair of power play chances, but were unable to convert on either of them. Halfway into the period Mallory Collins took the puck up the ice herself, with the rest of the team on a shift change, and flipped one into the top right corner to increase the Cardinal advantage to three. With a minute and a half remaining Makayla Steinmetz tacked on her first goal of the night and third of the series to make it 4-0.

Next up for the Cardinals is a matchup against 6th ranked Michigan on Thursday, February 8th. Puck drop is set for 8:00 PM at Yost Arena in Ann Arbor.
