Women's hockey rounds out season with 4-2 win at Rhode Island

(South County, RI) Concordia Women's Hockey rounded out their regular season with an out of conference matchup against Rhode Island on Sunday. The Cardinals came away with the 4-2 victory, earning their 10th win on the season, the most in program history.

 

Molly Burks got the start in between the pipes for Concordia, stopping 27 of the 29 shots she faced in the win. The Rams went up early, scoring a goal just 41 seconds into the game. Concordia bounced back with a power play goal from Makayla Steinmetz to tie it up four minutes later. Sienna Basile then broke the tie later in the period to give the Cards a one goal advantage heading into the second.

 

Rhode Island once again started the period off strong, scoring a goal less than a minute in. Sienna Basile scored her second of the game to regain the Cardinal lead. Concordia's defense successfully killed off two penalties to preserve the lead heading into the final period.

 

The Rams only had one penalty in the third period, but the Cardinals were able to capitalize by way of a Mallory Collins power play goal. The insurance goal would be the final goal of the season for Concordia as they won the game 4-2 and finished the season with a 10-14 record.
