Women's Lacrosse tops Anderson 21-8 in season opener

(Anderson, IN) – Concordia women's lacrosse headed to Anderson for their season opener on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals came out strong and cruised to a 21-8 victory to start off the year.

 

Michaela Ullery played a complete game in net with 4 saves. McKenna VanZant opened scoring just over a minute into the game. Brynn O'Neill and Isabella Komarowski added markers to extend the lead. Savanna Schmidt got on the board with an assist from O'Neill and Madisyn Fox tacked on a powerplay goal. Anderson managed to break the shutout, but the Cardinals countered with goals from Cecelia Gibson, Tara Drinane and Taylor Armstrong. CUAA led 8-1 after the first quarter.

Madisyn Fox scored her second goal early in the second quarter. Anderson began to rally, trimming the lead to 9-5 at the 10:25 mark. Brynn O'Neill ended the run with her second goal assisted by McKenna VanZant. Isabella Komarowski recorded another maker and Madleine Turcotte got on the scoresheet with Brynn O'Neill assisting. CUAA held a 12-5 lead at halftime.

 

Madleine Turcotte scored with Brynn O'Neill assisting once again to start the third quarter. Cecelia Gibson found the back of the net with a helper from Alicia Gutierrez. Isabella Komarowski finished her hat trick and Megan Soop recorded a goal for her team. CUAA was up 16-7 after the third quarter.

Cecelia Gibson tacked on another goal with Madleine Turcotte assisting. Gibson then set up a marker by Tara Drinane. Madleine Turcotte and Brynn O'Neil completed their respective hat tricks and McKenna VanZant capped the scoring in the final second. CUAA brought home a 21-8 win as time expired.

 

Concordia will travel to Tennessee Wesleyan this Saturday at 12pm.
