Women's Lacrosse holds off Bethel 9-7

(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia women's lacrosse hosted Bethel on a chilly Thursday afternoon to continue WHAC conference play. The Cardinals jumped out to a strong start and held off a late rally by the Pilots to secure a 9-7 victory.

 

Michaela Ullery played a complete game in net with 13 saves while adding a team-high 10 ground balls. The Cardinals opened scoring just under two minutes in with an unassisted goal from Brynn O'Neil. McKenna VanZant added a free position goal and Madeline Turcotte scored in the last minute with O'Neil assisting. CUAA led 3-0 after the first quarter.

Bethel broke the shutout early in the second quarter. Madeline Turcotte countered with her second marker of the game off a feed from Madisyn Fox. CUAA held a 4-2 lead heading into halftime.

 

The Cardinals started the third quarter strong with Taylor Armstrong finding the back of the net. Isabella Komarowski tallied twice and CUAA led 7-2 heading into the third quarter.

Bethel rallied with five straight goals to tie the game 7-7 with just over seven minutes to play. Michaela Ullery made multiple major saves to keep the contest tied. The Cardinals reclaimed the lead on the powerplay when Cecelia Gibson sent a feed from behind the net to Taylor Armstrong who buried the goal. Gibson added an insurance marker in the final seconds to secure the 9-7 victory.

 

Concordia will host #7 Indiana Tech this Saturday at noon.
