Women’s Soccer topples Cornerstone 5-1

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer hosted Cornerstone on Friday afternoon for a WHAC conference game.  The Cardinals entered 7-2 overall (1-1 WHAC) while the Golden Eagles came in 2-3-1 (0-2 WHAC).  CUAA turned in a solid offensive performance and cruised to a 5-1 victory to bring home another win.

 

Anna Roman played a complete game in goal, making 6 saves.  Concordia went on the attack early with a pair of shots on goal from Bryce Calka.  The Cardinals struck first in the 11th minute when Megan Starkey took a through ball from Hazel Wright and chipped the ball into the net.

Concordia converted again in the 25th minute when Megan Starkey scored her second marker of the game.  Starkey dribbled into the box, zigzagged through multiple defenders, and fired a shot in the goal.  Cornerstone was able to add a goal in the 29th minute, but CUAA held a 2-1 lead at halftime.

 

Danielle Bracken took two early shots on goal in the second half.  Concordia extended their lead in the 61st minute when Bryce Calka capitalized on a turnover in front of the net and knocked the ball in.  The Cardinals added a highlight-reel goal in the 67th minute when Kendra Lewis scored off a corner kick, banking the ball off the post and in.

Concordia scored one more time when Kiera Savage notched her first goal of the season in the 75th minute.  Savage took a pass from Samantha Putnam and fired a shot in from about 30 yards out.  CUAA held strong for the rest of the game and claimed the 5-1 win.

 

 

Concordia will remain at home on October 6 when they host UNOH at 1pm.
