Women's Soccer downs Indiana Tech 2-1

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia women's soccer hosted Indiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon in WHAC conference play. The Cardinals came in 9-2-2 overall (3-1-2 WHAC) while the Warriors entered with a 7-7-0 record (3-4-0 WHAC). CUAA scored two goals in the second half and held on to secure a 2-1 victory.

 

Anna Roman started in goal for Concordia, notching 4 saves. Danielle Bracken took the first shot on goal for the Cardinals just under 4 minutes into the contest. Both teams traded offensive opportunities and Anna Roman remained sharp with several saves. Hannah Smigielski took a long shot on goal in the final minute, and the Cardinals survived a late Indiana Tech attack when a goal was called back due to offsides. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime.

Concordia went on the attack early in the second half with two corner kicks taken by Kendra Lewis. The Cardinals had several key opportunities when Hannah Smigielski and Danielle Bracken fired shots from the side of the net off the second corner.

The Cardinals broke the shutout in the 56th minute when Isabel Stropich stole the ball from a defender, gave herself a breakaway and fired a powerful shot in the goal for a 1-0 lead. Just three minutes later, Concordia converted again. Danielle Bracken passed a ball in from the left side, Isabel Stropich tapped it forward and Megan Starkey finished the play with a goal.

Hayley Jacobson came in to play goalie in the 63rd minute. Indiana Tech was able to break the shutout with a goal, but Jacobson made a critical save in the 73rd minute and notched 4 total saves to preserve the 2-1 win.

 

Concordia will remain at home on Saturday, October 23 when they host Siena Heights for Senior Day. The game will start at 12pm.
