Women's Soccer opens the 2022 season, falling to Taylor 3-0

(ANN, ARBOR, MI) - The Concordia Women's Soccer team opened up a brand new season on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the Trojans from Taylor University to Ferry Field at Cardinal Stadium. The Trojans did enter the game on a week's rest after pulling off a 4-0 victory against Saint Xavier last Saturday to enter the game at 1-0.

The Trojans could control most of the first 15 minutes of the game, as they kept the pressure on the Cardinal's defense. The Cardinals would snuff out a 2-on-1 Trojan advantage as Jacobson picked up the ball on a long pass. Following a Jacobson punt, the Trojans went right back to the offensive as Lauren Collins weaved on the outside of the Cardinal defense and made a pass inside to Sophie Snyder who hit the open net for the 1-0 lead.

The next score in the game came yet again off the foot of a Taylor attacker. Rachel Landis sent a pass inside of the Cardinal defense that Audrey Grimm was able to beat the Cardinal goalkeeper to the other side. The goal gave them a 2-0 lead. Taylor had another advantage with about 15 seconds with a free kick from 20 yards out that narrowly went wide.

In the 62nd minute, the Trojans were able to once again get a nice shot off of a breakaway attempt but the shot went just high of the bar. Taylor controlled the ball on a short goal kick and rifled another shot that was saved by Jacobson.

The Cardinals were able to get two shots off throughout the course of the game as freshman Katelyn Aiello made it on the net, while Taia Vega was able to record the other shot that tailed just to the left of the goal.

The final Trojan goal of the game was in the 88th minute as Seifert tallied a goalie beating Jacobson to the corner of the goal.

In goal for the Cardinals was Jacobson who played the entirety of the game as she saved eight shots throughout the game.
