(Ann Arbor, MI) The Concordia Women's Soccer Team hosted the Gyrenes from Ave Maria on Monday morning for an NAIA out of conference matchup. Both teams came into the match looking for their first win of the season. Neither team was able to put a goal in the back of the net, making it a scoreless draw. Hayley Jacobson stopped a career high 12 shots and earned a clean sheet for the game.
Both teams had a good amount of looks in the first half, but neither team was able to finish their attacks. Hayley Jacobson stymied the Ave Maria offense with five saves in the first half of play. Taia Vega was able to get a shot on goal which was saved by the Gyrene keeper.
The Cardinal offense had a dangerous attach in the second when Hazel Wright kicked the ball over top of the Gyrene defense to Megan Starkey running towards the far post, but Starkey was unable to get a shot off.
Kiera Savage got a strong shot off from just inside the 18-yard box which was blocked by the Gyrene back line. Starkey had another opportunity later in the half when her shot was blocked inside the box.
Ave Maria nearly scored when a ball sent across the 6-yard box was stopped by Jacobson. With less than five minutes remaining Jacobson had another pair of saves in front of the net to keep her first clean sheet of the season.
The Cardinals will be back in action at St. Francis (IN) next Wednesday, September 14th. Kickoff will be at 5:30 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
