Women's Soccer wins 4-2 at St. Francis

(Fort Wayne, IN) Concordia Women's Soccer continued nonconference play Wednesday evening with a match against St. Francis (IN). The Cougars hosted the Cardinals and came into the match with a 3-1-2 record, while the Cardinals were still looking for their first win. The Cardinals offense erupted in the first 15 minutes of the match to a 3-0 lead, and were able to keep the lead for a 4-2 win in the end.

Concordia spent much of the first several minutes defending until Isabel Stropich found an open Megan Starkey making a run up the middle. Starkey was able to beat the Cougar keeper to give the Cardinals an early 1-0 lead.

Eight minutes later Kendra Lewis forced a Cougar turnover and then sent a shot from 25 yards out into the back of the net to make it a two-goal lead.

Four minutes after that, the Cardinals sent a throw in towards goal. The Cougar goalie was unable to control it, and Katelyn Aiello was there to bury the rebound for a three-goal advantage.

St. Francis broke the Cardinal shutout less than three minutes into the second half when a Cougar scored off of a rebound from the crossbar. The Cougars then scored another a little over ten minutes later when Hayley Jacobson came off her line to stop a pass, but was unable to gather the ball which let the Cougars come within one.

Taia Vega tacked on an insurance goal with three minutes remaining when she scored off of a pass from Katelyn Aiello.

The Cardinals will stay on the road this weekend when they travel to Judson. Kick off is set for 1:00 in Crystal Lake, Illinois.
