Cardinals fall in straight sets to (RV) Aquinas

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball continued a busy week with another home game against Aquinas.  The Cardinals came in 5-8 overall while the Saints entered with an impressive 16-1 record and receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches poll.  CUAA fought hard to earn points in each set, but Aquinas came away with the 3-0 win.

Kayla Peters led Concordia with 7 kills.  Hailey McCourt had a team-high 10 assists.  Tara Schatzle led the back end with 18 digs.  Madalyn Lisman led the team with 3 blocks.

 

Set 1 – AQ 25, CUAA 17

Kayla Peters had the first kill in set 1.  Kaitlin Veihl added an early kill and teams battled to a 5-5 tie.  Abigail Austin and Madalyn Lisman combined for a block midway through the set, but Aquinas slowly built up a lead.  Despite an ace by Abigail Austin the Cardinals fell 25-17 in set 1.

 

Set 2 – AQ 25, CUAA 18

Hailey McCourt recorded the first kill in set 2.  A Tara Drinane kill tied the game 5-5 and an ace by Kaitlin Veihl put Concordia ahead.  Veihl added a second ace but the Saints slowly worked out to the lead again.  Madalyn Lisman and Tara Drinane combined for a late block but Aquinas won set two 25-18.

 

Set 3 – AQ 25, CUAA 13

Madalyn Lisman had the first CUAA kill in set 3.  McKenzie Peters recorded an early service ace to put Concordia up 4-2.  Kayla Peters hammered multiple kills down the stretch, but Aquinas managed to build a double-digit lead and the Saints finished the game with a 25-13 win.

 

Concordia will return to action tomorrow (Sat, Mar 13) at UNOH for a 1pm game.
