Volleyball defeats Rochester in straight sets

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball hosted Rochester on Friday evening as they continued WHAC conference play. The Cardinals came in 10-10 overall (6-4 WHAC) while the Warriors entered 8-12 overall (3-5 WHAC). CUAA continued their winning streak with a 4th straight victory, claiming the contest in straight sets.

 

Kayla Peters led Concordia with 13 kills. Abigail Austin had a team-high 42 assists while tying Madalyn Lisman for the lead with 2 blocks. McKenzie Peters led the back end with 14 digs.

 

Set 1 – CUAA 25, RU 14

Abigail Austin had the first kill of the game. Austin added an early service ace and the Cardinals slowly began to expand their lead. Breann June and Kaitlin Veihl added aces as the set went on and Madalyn Lisman combined with Abigail Austin for a block.  Concordia claimed set 1 by a score of 25-14.

 

Set 2 – CUAA 25, RU 16

Kayla Peters had back-to-back kills to start set 2. The lead continued to shift hands with Tara Drinane notching a kill and Breann June adding back-to-back kills to put Concordia back ahead 10-8. Kayla Peters made back-to-back kills to start a 7-0 run which was capped off by a Kaitlin Veihl ace. Veihl notched the winning kill for a 25-16 set 2 win.

 

Set 3 – CUAA 25, RU 22

Kaitlin Veihl made a service ace to tie the set 2-2 and Madalyn Lisman made a go-ahead kill. Concordia stayed ahead for most of the third set as Kayla Peters continued to record kills to pace the offense. Rochester made a late 6-0 run to tighten the set, but Kaitlin Veihl finished off the game with a kill to clinch the match.

 

Concordia will be back in action tomorrow when they travel to Lawrence Tech at 1 pm.
