Volleyball falls in three sets to Cornerstone

(Grand Rapids, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals Volleyball traveled to the west side of the state for a match against the 21st-ranked Cornerstone Golden Eagles. The Cardinals went into the match looking to avoid the sweep while ultimately falling three sets to none. 

 

Claudia Grepke would lead the Cardinals in kills for the match with 17, while Abigail Austin was the main setter for the team earning 26 assists and McKenzie Peters would anchor the backline with 23 digs. 

 

Set 1 - Cornerstone 25, Concordia 15

The first Cardinal point came off a kill from Grepke after seven Golden Eagle points. CU would hold at least a six-point lead throughout the entire first set. Grepke would also earn the final Cardinal point with a kill.

 

Set 2 - Cornerstone 25, Concordia 19

The two teams would start off strong as both would get to a tie at eight points a piece. Cornerstone though would go on a seven-point run. The Cardinals would score six of the final eight points of the set although would drop it by six points. 

 

Set 3 - Cornerstone 25, Concordia 15

Grepke would once again earn the first kill of the set and kills from Jessalyn Peavyhouse and Breann June would keep the score tied at three. Another Golden Eagle run would see them earn a 10-point lead. June would earn a kill and Grepke would get a service ace before Cornerstone score the final eight of 13 points to win the final set. 

 

The Cardinals will come home for the final home match of the regular season they will match up against Indiana Tech with the first serve at 7 pm.
