Season Preview: Volleyball preps for 2023 campaign

 

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball is preparing to start their 2023 season at the Huntington Tri-Match.  6th-year head coach Danielle Cook will look to build off another WHAC playoff appearance last year as the #8 seed.  The Cardinals return 11 heavily experienced players while adding 16 newcomers.

 

2022 Season Review

Concordia finished 12-21 overall with a 7-13 WHAC record.  The team started the year with 2 wins at the Huntington Tri-Match.  In WHAC play, the Cardinals downed rival Madonna along with sweeping Aquinas on the year.  The team received the #8 seed in the WHAC playoffs and fell to Cornerstone.

 

2023 Schedule Outlook

The Cardinals start the year at the Huntington Tri-Match against Huntington and Trinity Christian.  The team will have their home opener versus Kuyper College on Wednesday at 6pm.

September starts with 4 games at the Florida College Tournament.  WHAC play starts September 6 with a home match against Lourdes.  After 4 games at the Indiana Tech Tournament, the Cardinals host the (RV) Warriors on September 13.  The team travels to UNOH, hosts Lawrence Tech, and visits UM-Dearborn.  The Cardinals then host two rivals, (RV) Siena Heights on September 23 and Madonna on September 27.  After traveling to Cornerstone, the team plays Aquinas at home to round out the month.

October starts with a 3-game road trip at Rochester, Lourdes and Lawrence Tech.  After two home games against UNOH and UM-Dearborn, the Cardinals travel to rivals (RV) Siena Heights, Madonna, and Aquinas.  A home game against Cornerstone finishes the month.

In November, the Cardinals head on the road to (RV) Indiana Tech.  November 4 will be Senior Day against Rochester to finish the regular season.

 

Concordia Personnel

Seniors: Abigail Austin returns after making 496 assists and 305 digs.  McKenzie Peters had a team-high 531 digs last year.  Kayla Peters made 322 kills along with 389 digs.  Madalyn Lisman had 83 kills and 49 blocks.  Korie Fowler made 46 digs last year before a season-ending injury.

Juniors: Claudia Grepke led the team with 363 kills.  Jessalyn Peavyhouse had a team-high 75 blocks.  Breann June notched 255 kills and 32 blocks.  Megan Neumann made 9 kills and 8 blocks.

Sophomores: Madeline Vnuk had a team-high 553 assists and Leah Troyer will join her as the lone returning sophomores.

Newcomers: The Cardinals have added 16 newcomers: sophomore transfer Maggie Pritts, and freshmen Ava Kuhn, Courtney Kalahar, Emiline Wood, Emma Leinberger, Evelyn Schwartz, Jacey Powell, Jayden Teachout, Julianna Weems, Mara Strock, Merin Merkle, Olivia Cronin, Sara Wilkinson, Sarah Eggelmeyer, and Sarah Hock.

 

Head coach Danielle Cook is joined by graduate assistant Lauren Martin and assistant coaches Alisha Greaves and Austin Cook.  Madison Phillips, Juliana Helisek and Andrea Nelson will serve as student assistants.

 

2022 Team Stats
