Volleyball sweeps final day at Florida Tournament

(Temple Terrace, FL) - The Concordia Cardinals stayed south for the second-straight day of games as they took on Trinity Baptist and, the host team for the weekend, Florida College. The Cardinals took the game against Trinity Baptist, 3-0, and would pull out another 3-0 sweep in the final game of their Florida Tournament against Florida College. 

 

Game 1: 

Set 1: Concordia 25, Trinity Baptist 3

Madeline Vnuk started the first rally for the Cardinals with the first 9 points, which included four aces. Merin Merkle would close out the final 11 points on a long Cardinal run as they would take advantage of multiple TBU errors. 

 

Set 2: Concordia 25, Trinity Baptist 7

The second set started with two kills from Jessalyn Peavyhouse. Merin Merkle would continue her hot serving with another long run, this time of seven points, aided by a couple of Madalyn Lisman kills. CUAA would go on a score 16 of the final 17 points as Emiline Wood served the final 15 points. Lisman would add a couple more kills in the set. 

 

Set 3: Concordia 25, Trinity Baptist 7

The first couple of points would go back and forth between the two teams as kills from Courtney Kalahar and Jacey Powell would put the Cards up 7-2. Multiple Trinity Baptist errors would aid the Cards in jumping out to yet another huge lead as Maggie Pritts, McKenzie Peters, Vnuk and Wood would close out the serving for the Cardinals win. 


Game 2: 

Set 1: Concordia 25, Florida College 13

Abigail Austin took the first serve for the Cards and would lead them out to a 6-1 start as she would take advantage of a couple of errors and then points from Austin and Megan Neumann. Six of the next nine points would come from Florida College, before a big run from CUAA. A couple of kills from Kayla Peters would aid in the Cardinals run. 

 

Set 2: Concordia 25, Florida College 21

Breann June would get the first point of the set on a kill and an assist from Austin. A back and forth battle in the set would see a couple of kills from Claudia Grepke. Kayla Peters had two of the final kills in the set to get teh 2-0 lead. 

 

Set 3: Concordia 28, Florida College 26

The Falcons jumped out to a 7-3 lead in what would be the final set. A couple of FC errors and kills from Lisman would bring the Cards closer to the tie. Grepke had two key kills to tie the game at 24 and 25 respectively. Kayla Peters scored the final point in the match.

The Cardinals will return home and open up the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) season when they go up against Lourdes on Wednesday, September 6 at 7 PM.
