Volleyball wins thrilling 5-set match against Lourdes

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) season began tonight for the Concordia Cardinals Volleyball team as they took on the Gray Wolves from Lourdes University. The Cardinals entered the match with a 6-1 overall record, while the Gray Wolves entered at 0-2.

Game 1:

Set 1: Lourdes 28, Concordia 26

The Cardinals jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead in the first set as Breann June would get the first kill of the match. Madalyn Lisman and Kayla Peters would also get multiple kills in that run. Lourdes would not let the Cardinals run away with the set though as they would battle their way back into a 21-21 tie. A couple of Gray Wolves errors would aid the Cards to a slight lead, but that lead would not be enough as four of the final five points for the set 1 win.

Set 2: Concordia 25, Lourdes 21

Breann June would once again get the first kill of the set. Both teams would battle to an 8-8 tie before the Gray Wolves tagged on seven points. Megan Neumann and Kayla Peters would aid the Card's comeback though as they soared back into the lead at 23-19. A kill from Jacey Powell would end the set.

Set 3: Lourdes 26, Concordia 24

Yet another close set would see both teams battle for the lead. The Cardinals at one point would jump out to a 21-15 lead, but eight straight Gray Wolves points would give them a slight advantage. A couple of errors from the Gray Wolves would see them be down 24-23, but scored the final three points for the 2-1 set advantage.

Set 4: Concordia 25, Lourdes 18

Concordia jumped on the Gray Wolves to start the fourth set of the match as they would hold a 10-point advantage throughout the majority of the set. Multiple Lourdes' errors would aid the Cardinal's lead as well as kills from Jacey Powell, Kayla Peters, and Breann June. Weems would get in on the scoring for the night tacking the final point of the set on a kill.

Set 5: Concordia 15, Lourdes 11
