Volleyball defeats Madonna in straight sets

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia volleyball hosted rival Madonna for a WHAC matchup on Wednesday night. The Cardinals were firing on all cylinders and made a statement with a victory in straight sets.

Breann June led the team with 18 kills. Abigail Austin had a team-high 40 assists. Kayla Peters led the back end with 17 digs. Madalyn Lisman finished first with 5 blocks.

 

Set 1 – CUAA 25, MU 20

Claudia Grepke opened the game with a kill. Kayla Peters and Breann June made early kills as the Cardinals slowly inched ahead midway through the set. McKenzie Peters notched an ace down the stretch and Breann June claimed the winning kill.

 

Set 2 – CUAA 25, MU 15

Breann June started set 2 with a kill. Abigail Austin made an early ace and Madalyn Lisman was active around the net with blocks. The Cardinals pulled away by double digits midway through and took the second set 25-15.

 

Set 3 – CUAA 25, MU 23

Breann June made the first Cardinal kill in set 3 followed by an Emiline Wood ace. Madalyn Lisman remained a force at the net with combined and solo blocks. Both teams traded points all throughout the set with Concordia keeping a small lead. Leading 24-23, Claudia Grepke hammered the match point to clinch the sweep.

 

Concordia will travel to Cornerstone this Friday evening at 7:00pm.
