Volleyball tops Lourdes in 4 Sets

(Sylvania, OH) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Lourdes on Wednesday night for a WHAC matchup. After falling in the first set, the Cardinals took the last three in a row to sweep the season series.

 

Julianna Weems led the team with 14 kills. Abigail Austin had a team-high 44 assists. McKenzie Peters secured the back end with 21 digs. Jessalyn Peavyhouse came in first with 7 blocks.

 

Set 1 – LU 25, CUAA 20

Claudia Grepke had the first Concordia kill. The Cardinals jumped out to an early 3-1 lead after a combined block from Grepke and Jessalyn Peavyhouse, but Lourdes slowly inched ahead in the set. Julianna Weems made several powerful kills but Lourdes took set 1.

 

Set 2 – CUAA 25, LU 18

Jessalyn Peavyhouse had the first Cardinal kill in set 2. Kayla Peters and Julianna Weems continued to lead the offense with Jessalyn Peavyhouse also notching three straight kills. Claudia Grepke hammered a strong kill late in the set and Abigail Austin tipped the ball over for the winning kill.

 

Set 3 – CUAA 25, LU 18

Abigail Austin started set 3 with an ace. Kayla Peters and Julianna Weems again teamed up for early kills and Austin notched another ace down the stretch. Peters had a string of three kills in a row later on and Concordia took set three 25-18.

 

Set 4 – CUAA 25, LU 18

Jacey Powell notched the first Cardinal kill in set 4. Jessalyn Peavyhouse continued her strong play at the net, combining for four blocks in the set. Kayla Peters, Julianna Weems and Claudia Grepke stayed sharp with timely hits as Concordia inched towards the win. A block from Grepke and Jessalyn Peavyhouse clinched the win.

 

Concordia will travel to Lawrence Tech this Friday at 7pm.
