Volleyball falls in four sets at Lawrence Tech

(Southfield, MI) – Concordia volleyball went on the road to Lawrence Tech on Friday evening to continue WHAC conference play. The Cardinals took the first set of the game, but LTU battled back for a 3-1 win.

Claudia Grepke led the Cardinals with 17 kills. Abigail Austin notched a team-high 37 assists. McKenzie Peters secured the back end with 25 digs. Jessalyn Peavyhouse made a team-leading 5 blocks.

 

Set 1 – CUAA 25, LTU 23

Claudia Grepke had two kills in a 3-0 opening run for Concordia. The teams battled to a 9-9 tie until the Cardinals pulled ahead with Grepke and Kayla Peters recording kills down the stretch. LTU kept the match close, trimming the lead to 22-21 late, but Kayla Peters secured the winning kill in set 1.

 

Set 2 – LTU 25, CUAA 22

Emiline Wood had an ace in a 4-1 run by Concordia to start. Jessalyn Peavyhouse stayed active at the net with 3 block assists in the set. The Cardinals went ahead 12-8 after two straight blocks from Peavyhouse and Abigail Austin, but LTU made a run to pull back ahead. Julianna Weems had two powerful kills later on, but LTU took set 2.

 

Set 3 – LTU 25, CUAA 18

Claudia Grepke opened set 3 with a kill. Kayla Peters stayed strong with two early kills and Leah Troyer notched two aces for a 12-8 lead. Madalyn Lisman used her height for an easy kill at the net, but LTU again used a late-set run to take set three.

 

Set 4 – LTU 25, CUAA 19

Abigail Austin started set four with an ace. Madalyn Lisman teamed up with Claudia Grepke and Austin for blocks as the set was once again closely contested. Kayla Peters made a kill for a 16-15 lead, but the Blue Devils closed the set on a 10-3 run for the win.

 

Concordia will return home Saturday to host UNOH at 5pm.
