Volleyball upends UNOH with a 3-1 win

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinals met up with the University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday evening for a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) matchup. The Cardinals would take sets one, three, and four as CUAA would come out on top for the evening. 

 

The Cardinals entered the match with a 14-9 overall record and 5-7 in WHAC play. The Racers entered at 10-14 overall and 3-9 in the WHAC season. 

 

Set 1: Concordia 25, UNOH 16

The Racers would earn the first three points to start off the game before Jessalyn Peavyhouse started a five-point rally for the Cards. CUAA took advantage of UNOH errors as they would go on a couple of five-point rallies throughout the set as Kayla Peters, and Julianna Weems would each get multiple kills, and Emiline Wood and Abigail Austin both scored aces. Claudia Grepke grabbed the final two kills of the set to take a 1-0 lead. 

 

Set 2: UNOH 25, Concordia 21

Set two would see both teams score points back-and-forth before six straight Cardinal points. Jessalyn Peavyhosue and Claudia Grepke would each score kills in that stretch. The Cardinals would build out a 17-12 before UNOH raced back to score 13 of the final 17 points. 

 

Set 3: Concordia 25, UNOH 19

Breann June and Claudia Grepke scored back-to-back kills to start off the third set. Neither team was able to gain footing in the set as it was close throughout. A key run though by the Cards, where they scored seven of eight points, would see them take a 17-11 lead. Multiple of the final eight points for CUAA in the set would come from Kayla Peters and Jessalyn Peavyhouse.

 

Set 4: Concordia 25, UNOH 17

The final set would see the first CUAA points come from a Jessalyn Peavyhouse kill. Breann June would score four straight Cardinals points to go up 8-6. Back-to-back points from Claudia Grepke gave Concordia a five-point lead midway through the set. Seven of the final eleven points would be in CUAA's favor as Emiline Wood would end the game with an ace.

The Cardinals will remain home as they will play host to Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday, October 18 with tipoff at 7 PM.
