(Adrian)- The Cardinals traveled to Adrian to play Siena Heights for the second time this season. They won 3-1 with very close scores. Breann June led in kills with a total of 18 and 49 attempts. For blocks, Julianna Weems led with 6 assisted. Jacey Powell had 4 assisted and Abigail Austin had 3. Kayla Peters had 1 solo block and 1 assisted. Abigail Austin had 46 assists. Kayla Peters had 19 digs and McKenzie Peters had 18. Emmiline Wood had 4 aces and Emma Leinberger had 2.
Set 1 (26-24)
The first point for the Cardinals is a kill by Claudia Grepke assisted by Abigail Austin. The Cardinals and the Saints go point for point the entire match thanks to 4 kills by Julianna Weems, 5 by Kayla Peters, and 5 more by Claudia Grepke. At 23-24 Saints led but Julianna Weems got a kill making the score 24-24. Abigail Austin got the next kill making the score 25-24. Korie Fowler got an ace finishing the game at 26-24.
Set 2 (21-24)
The Saints and Cardinals went back and forth with the lead the entire second set as well. Jacey Powell and Breann June added to the tally of Cardinal kills. At 14-14 the Saints were able to pull ahead and keep the lead although the Cardinals stayed close behind making the final score 21-25.
Set 3 (25-23)
Jacey Powell started the third set off with a kill. Kayla Peters snagged a couple kills as well. Julianna Weems also got a kill making the score 5-2. Breann June had a great set with 8 kills. The Cardinals were able to get the lead 11-6 before the Saints caught back up making it 17-17. Breann June would get her 7th and 8th kill of the set. Kayla Peters would tack on two more. The final score being 25-23.
Set 4 (25-13)
The fourth set started off close until the Cardinals were able to pull ahead at 9-8 with a kill by Breann June and would get 3 more throughout the set. Emiline Wood then got her second ace of the set. Emma Leinberger also got an ace. Kayla Peters and Julianna Weems would each get 3 kills throughout the set helping bring the score to 21-12. From there Julianna Weems would get back-to-back assisted blocks with Kayla Peters and Abigail Austin. Weems got another kill making it 24-13. Breann June finished the set with a kill.
The Cardinals next game will be October 25th when they travel to Madonna to play at 7:00 PM
