Volleyball falls in straight sets at Madonna

(Livonia, MI) – Concordia volleyball went up the road to face rival Madonna on Wednesday evening. In their first meeting this year the Cardinals came away with a sweep, but the Crusaders countered with a 3-0 win of their own to avenge their loss.

Breann June led the team with 11 kills. Abigail Austin had a team-high 29 assists. McKenzie Peters secured the back end with 12 digs.

 

Set 1 – MU 26, CUAA 24

Claudia Grepke had the first Concordia kill of the game. The first set was closely contested with Breann June notching 6 of her kills in the first set alone. Jessalyn Peavyhouse made multiple kills down the stretch as well, and the Cardinals held a 24-23 lead after an Abigail Austin kill. However, the Crusaders were able to rally and took a 26-24 win in set 1.

 

Set 2 – MU 25, CUAA 23

Kayla Peters had the first Cardinal kill in set 2. Peters and Breann June stayed sharp early and once again the set stayed within a few points. Claudia Grepke showed her power with a strong kill as well and the set went to a 22-22 tie, but Madonna was able to reach 25 points for the win.

 

Set 3 – MU 25, CUAA 14

Kayla Peters had Concordia's first kill in set 3. The Cardinals fell behind early but made a small rally with Breann June continuing her strong play. Madonna was able to close the set with a 10-4 run to clinch the sweep.

 

Concordia will head on the road to Aquinas this Friday at 7pm.
