Volleyball drops road contest at Aquinas

(Grand Rapids, MI) – Concordia volleyball traveled to Aquinas on Friday night as the WHAC regular season winds down. The Cardinals battled hard in the first set with Aquinas needing 32 points to win, but the Saints took the final two sets to win.

Breann June led the team with 12 kills. Abigail Austin had a team-high 27 assists. McKenzie Peters secured the back end with 16 digs. Julianna Weems made a team-best 3 blocks.

 

Set 1 – AQ 32, CUAA 30

Claudia Grepke had Concordia's first kill in what would be a lengthy first set. The set featured multiple ties early on with Leah Troyer recording an ace. Breann June made multiple kills leading to a 21-15 Cardinal lead, but the Saints fought back to take a 25-24 lead. Both teams traded set points in extended play, but Aquinas eventually took a 32-30 win.

 

Set 2 – AQ 25, CUAA 17

Kayla Peters had the first Cardinal kill in set 2. Breann June continued her strong play with kills, but Aquinas slowly built a double-digit lead. Concordia made a late 4-0 run capped by a combined block from Abigail Austin and Jessalyn Peavyhouse, but the Saints took set 2.

 

Set 3 – AQ 25, CUAA 17

Claudia Grepke made the first CUAA kill in set 3. Kayla Peters and Abigail Austin each made three Cardinal kills in a row as the team fought to an 11-11 tie. Concordia benefited from some Aquinas errors, but the Saints were able to rally to take set 3 and sweep.

 

Concordia will return home tomorrow to host Cornerstone at 1pm.
