(Ann Arbor) – Concordia hosted Cornerstone on Saturday for their Dig Pink game.
Kayla Peters was the leader with 18 kills and 58 attempts. Breann June and Julianna Weems tied with 9 kills. Abigail Austin had 54 assists. McKenzie Peters led in digs with 24. Juliana Weems had 3 assisted blocks and 1 solo. For aces, McKenzie Peters had 4 and Leah Troyer had 3.
Set 1 25-21
Kayla Peters came out swinging getting two kills Breann June also got two kills early on making the score 8-7. The Cardinals maintained a couple-point lead until 20-20 when the Cardinals would call a timeout. From there Kayla Peters, Breann June, and Julianna Weems would each get a kill making the score 21-24. Julianna Weems finished the set with another kill. Kayla Peters totaled 4 kills, Weems 3, Jessalyn Peavyhouse 4, Breann June 3, Abigail Austin 1, Claudia Grepke 1.
Set 2 24-26
Kayla Peters got the first earned point for the Cardinals with a kill assisted by Abigail Austin. Followed by Julianna Weems and Abigail Austin each getting 2 kills. Leah Troyer had 2 aces. In this set, the Cougars were able to maintain a one-point lead for most of the set despite kills by Peters, Grepke, and Peavyhouse.
Set 3 25-27
The Cougars led 6-1 before the Cardinals started a comeback. They were able to catch up 19-16 thanks to kills by Jacey Powell, Kayla Peters, and Jessalyn Peavyhouse. After an ace by Kayla Peters Cornerstone called a timeout. Breann June got a kill closely followed by a kill by Julianna Weems and another by June. Jacey Powell and Madalyn Lisman were also able to each get a kill making the score 24-24. From there the Cougars pulled ahead with a final score 27-25.
Set 4 25-14
Jacey Powell opened the set with 3 back to back to back kills. The Cardinals stayed fired up with more kills by Madalyn Lisman, Julianna Weems, Abigail Austin, Breann June, and Kayla Peters, and aces by McKenzie Peters and Korie Fowler. Emiline Wood was also a key server in this set.
Set 5 9-15
The Cougars started the lead and gradually increased it throughout the set. Julianna Weems had 2 kills, Breann June had 1 and McKenzie Peters had an ace.
The Cardinals will next play at Indiana Tech at 7:00 PM.
