Volleyball picks up 3-0 against Rochester on Senior Day

(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia Cardinal's Volleyball team rounded out their regular season on Saturday as they would battle to take on the Warriors from Rochester University. The Cardinals entered the game with an overall 17-13 record and an 8-11 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) record, while the Warriors entered at 4-26 overall and 1-18 in WHAC play. 

 

Set 1: Concordia 27, Rochester 25

The first set would be an exciting one as the two teams would battle back and forth with Kayla Peters earning the first CUAA kill of the match. Neither team could take more than a two-point advantage in the set. A kill from Breann June and an ace from McKenzie Peters would give the Cardinals a 19-17 edge. After the set was tied at 25 two final kills from June and Claudia Grepke would give the Cardinals the 1-0 advantage. 

 

Set 2: Concordia 25, Rochester 13

After the Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 start in the set, Claudia Grepke would get the first kill of the set for the Cards. CUAA would continue to score nine of the next 11 points to go up 10-5. Another large CUAA run aided by RU errors and kills from Madalyn Lisman and Julianna Weems would allow the Cardinals to go up 18-8. The final CUAA point of the set would come on a Warriors attacking error. 

 

Set 3: Concordia 25, Rochester 12

It was the Cardinals who jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the third set of the match as Breann June had two straight kills to start the team off. A Korie Fowler serving run would give the Cards five straight points and an 11-3 advantage. With the game at 18-10, CUAA scored seven of the final nine points with kills from Kayla Peters, Madalyn Lisman and June all rounding out the CUAA attack. 

 

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

The Cardinals celebrated Senior Day as well before the game. Seven Cardinal seniors were Madison Phillips, Andrea Nelson, Kayla Peters, Abigail Austin, Korie Fowler, Madalyn Lisman, and McKenzie Peters who were all honored before the game.

The Cardinals will participate in the WHAC playoffs with the first round taking place on Wednesday, November 8th as the tournament is still being finalized.
