Alison Doerr Selected for Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program

Alison Doerr Selected for Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program

(Washington, D.C.) - The American Red Cross recently announced a group of 13 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) student-athletes who were chosen to participate in its Collegiate Leadership Program, with Concordia's Alison Doerr being one of the selected members. Doerr will represent Concordia in the two-week internship at the American Red Cross Washington, D.C. headquarters over the summer and receive a $2,000 scholarship in addition.

The Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program engages character-driven student-athletes in a national initiative to help save lives through blood collection on college campuses. The character traits and skill sets emphasized through sports competition are the skill sets the Red Cross looks for in volunteers and future leaders. The internship gives its participants the great opportunity to develop leadership skills and inspire a new generation of Red Cross volunteers by running and organizing blood drives in their schools and communities. The program includes training, mentoring, and networking with senior American Red Cross leadership during its two-week internship.

Doerr is a Sophomore, a distance runner on the cross-country and track & field teams, and a part of the Athletic Training program.

Athletic Director Lonnie Pries is excited to have Doerr represent Concordia and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) at the Red Cross Collegiate Leadership Program. "Alison is a student-athlete who lives out our department's mission and core values of 'Christ-Centered, Integrity, Servant Leadership, and Championship Mindset'. She is a great example of a leader striving for excellence in her studies, in track, and as a person."

Track & Field Head Coach Danielle McGuiness had this to say about Doerr "We're so proud of Alison! With every project she has undertaken, she has exemplified resilience and compassion. Now as a beacon of hope with this Red Cross internship ahead, she's not only running towards her dreams but also extending a helping hand to those in need, leaving an incredible mark on both CUAA track & field and humanity. The Red Cross picked a great one!"

Doerr is the first Cardinal selected to the program since Paige Johnson in February of 2020.
