(Ann Arbor, MI) - The Concordia cheer team will be competing this upcoming weekend at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Cheer National Championships. The Cardinals, who are the host team for the championships, earned an automatic bid to the event by claiming the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) title last month.

The NAIA Championship will feature 15 teams. Those teams include Concordia (MI), Cumberlands (KY), Dickinson State (ND), Friends (KN), Georgetown (KY), Grand View (IA), Indiana Wesleyan, MidAmerica Nazarene (KN), Midland (NE), Missouri Valley, Mobile (AL), Oklahoma City, St. Ambrose (IA), Tennessee Southern, and Xavier (LA).
Teams will compete for the NAIA Championship with each team performing two routines. The first routine will be the preliminary round which will count toward 25% of the overall score. The Final round score will make up 75% of the overall score. In the event of a tie, the score from finals will be used to break the tie.
2022 RESULTS
The Cardinals ended the Championship last season with a fifth-place finish after posting a final overall score of 88.82.
Winning their first-ever competitive cheer championship last season was Xavier University (LA) after posting a score of 83.70. The rest of the top five teams consisted of Indiana Wesleyan (92.58), St. Ambrose (92.17), and Dickinson State (90.04).
2022-23 SEASON REVIEW
The Cardinals have the 7th-highest score in the NAIA this season averaging 88.44 throughout the 6 NAIA-scored events this season. This will be the eighth overall time the Cardinals will be taking the mat as they also participated at the Concordia Invitational Tournament (CIT) in late January taking home their 4th consecutive championship home.
Other first-place finishes this season include wins at the Cardinals Invite, Tiger Invite, Doane Dual, Our Lady of the Lakes Dual, and the WHAC Championships.
