Football's DeGayner named NAIA/AFCA All-American

(Kansas City, MO) - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced the 2022 Fall NAIA Coaches' All-America Teams on Thursday afternoon and Junior Seeger DeGayner was named to the All-America First Team.

Seeger DeGayner, a junior from Grand Blanc, Michigan, was a first-team selection as an All-Purpose player on special teams this season after leading the NAIA in kickoff return average (44.1) and touchdowns (3), while also having the second-longest return of the season (100). DeGayner would also tally the 13th most All-Purpose Yards on the season as well with 1382 yards.

In addition to the All-America honors, DeGayner was named to the MSFA Mid-East First and Second Team, three MSFA Mid-East player of the week honors, and one NCCAA player of the week award.

Coach Joshua Schumacher had this to say about Seeger's performance this season "Seeger is a fierce competitor. He worked his tail off with his teammates all summer and it was great to see him excel again this season as a receiver and returner. Breaking the NAIA kickoff return record was something special for our whole kickoff return team, Seeger and Coach Straz."

DeGayner joins Casey Rauch (2021 Fall, 1st Team), Andrew Foerster (2021 Spring, 2nd Team), Alex Hinojosa (2021 Spring, 1st Team), Ryan Fish (2021 Spring, Honorable Mention), Donovan Corlew (2018 and 2019 Honorable Mention), Joe Conner (2018, 1st Team) and Takari Johnson (2014, 1st Team) as Cardinals throughout program history to be named to the NAIA All-America Teams.
