Men's basketball extends win streak to four games in a dominating 81-66 win over Siena Heights

(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball returned home to host rival Siena Heights in WHAC conference play on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals entered 3-3 overall with a 3-game winning streak while the Saints came in 0-2. CUAA jumped out to a quick start and weathered several Siena Heights runs to win the rivalry game 81-66.

Zackary Johnson led the Cardinals with 22 points, going 5-8 from behind the arc. Thomas Hronis had 18 points going 6-11 from three-point range. Tyler Black was also in double figures with 12 points. Anthony Condie had a team-high 8 rebounds while chipping in 4 points.

 

A triple from Zackary Johnson began a 12-0 CUAA opening run. Colton Ritsema scored three times in the paint and Thomas Hronis capped the run with a 3-pointer. Tyler Black scored on a quick drive and two more triples from Hronis put Concordia up 21-5 at the 11:20 mark.

Siena Heights fought back to tighten the game, trimming the Cardinals' lead to just 5 points with a 32-27 score with 4:53 remaining. Tyler Black ended the run with a layup and Thomas Hronis knocked down three straight triples to put Concordia back up by double digits. Zackary Johnson added a 3-pointer and Anthony Condie notched an offensive putback just before halftime for a 48-35 lead.

 

Bernard Kasanda made a pair of free throws to open the 2nd half. Zackary Johnson scored a layup and a deep 3-pointer to keep the Cardinals in front. Johnson added another two triples and Colton Ritsema made a shot from a tough angle to begin an old-fashioned three-point play.

C.J. Moore scored a basket and two free throws as time continued to wind down. Matt Lockhart and Devyn Jones helped to clinch the game with free throws and Concordia secured the 81-66 victory as time expired.

 

Concordia moves to 4-3 on the year with the win. The Cardinals will play again tomorrow (Sunday, January 31) with a road game at Lourdes. Tip-off is at 3pm.
