Men's Lacrosse falls at William Penn

(Oskalossa, IA) – Concordia men's lacrosse traveled west to William Penn on Monday afternoon for a non-conference matchup. The Cardinals came in with the #9 ranking in the country while the Statesmen entered 4-3 overall. CUAA continued to battle throughout the game but William Penn pulled away for a 16-8 win.

Andrew Simmons led the team with 3 goals. Joseph Cady and Sam Saje tied for a team-high 4 ground balls.

 

Sam Bowling played a complete game in net, making 16 saves. WPU scored first but the Cardinals tied the game with a marker from Andrew Simmons. After WPU retook the lead, Evan Stuart cut the deficit in half with a top-corner shot from the left side. CUAA trailed 4-2 after the first quarter.

Andrew Simmons scored a power-play goal in the second quarter by ripping a low shot through traffic. However, the Cardinals trailed 9-3 at halftime.

Andrew Simmons completed his hat trick with a powerplay goal in the third quarter. Evan Stuart scored his second goal and Ryan Iles found the back of the net as well. CUAA trailed 13-6 after the third quarter.

Blake Blaisdell scored a goal for the Cardinals in the fourth quarter. Marcus Villagomez added a goal on the fast break after a quick pass from Blaisdell. However, the Statesmen were able to hold on for the 16-8 win.

 

Concordia men's lacrosse will remain in Iowa to face Saint Ambrose on Wednesday, March 16 at 3pm.
