(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia softball concluded WHAC play with a home doubleheader against Cornerstone. The Cardinals earned a sweep of the Golden Eagles on the day to add two more wins.
Game 1 – CUAA 8, CU 5
Elyse Brittain started game 1, going 3.1 innings with 2 strikeouts. Cornerstone scored in the 1st but Dee Campbell countered with an RBI single in the bottom half.
In the 2nd, Sarah Tyrrell drilled a 2-RBI triple and Lauren Martin added an RBI groundout. Cornerstone plated 2 runs in the 3rd to trim the lead to 4-3. Kendall Kahl came in to pitch starting in the 4th, going 3.2 innings with 3 strikeouts.
In the 4th, Lauren Martin used a sacrifice fly to score Jada Stephenson. Koryn Playford chipped in an RBI double to drive in Sarah Tyrrell.
In the 5th, Katie Tobias smacked a 2-run homer to extend the lead. Kendall Kahl continued her strong play on the mound and secured the 8-5 win.
Game 2 – CUAA 10, CU 6
Paige Anderson started game 2, making 2 strikeouts in 4 innings. Cornerstone hit a 2-run homer in the 1st, but the Cardinals answered with 3 runs in the bottom half. Dee Campbell hit an RBI single and Katie Tobias crushed her second 2-run homer of the day.
In the 3rd, Katie Tobias hit an RBI single to score Shannon McAlinden. Maddy Grueter then smacked a 3-run homer over the fence to extend the lead.
Cassidy Kane came in to pitch in the 5th, picking up the save. Cornerstone trimmed the lead to 7-6 between the 4th and 5th innings.
In the 6th, Shannon McAlinden hit a 2-run homer and Dee Campbell followed with a solo shot. Cassidy Kane finished out the 7th to clinch the sweep.
Concordia will travel to Calumet this Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
