Softball sweeps Rochester Christian
(Ann Arbor, MI) - Concordia softball played host to Rochester Christian on Sunday afternoon.  The Cardinals triggered the mercy rule with a 9-1 win in game one and secured a 6-3 victory in game two.  
 
GAME 1 – CUAA 9, RU 1 (five innings)
Paige Anderson started game one on the mound, pitching four innings with 4 strikeouts.  Maddy Grueter opened scoring in the second inning with a solo home run.   
In the third inning, Shannon McAlinden hit a 2-RBI single scoring Payton Lewis and Jada Stephenson.  Katie Tobias added an RBI single to drive in McAlinden.  Rochester Christian broke the shutout with a run in the bottom half.  
Jada Stephenson countered in the fourth inning with an RBI double scoring Sarah Tyrrell.  The Cardinals scored 4 runs in the fifth, starting with a sacrifice fly from Maddy Grueter that drove in Shannon McAlinden.  Sarah Tyrrell added an RBI double to score Katie Tobias.  Jada Stephenson used an RBI single to score Bella Lee and Sarah Tyrrell later reached home with Stephenson caught in the rundown.  
Elyse Brittain pitched the fifth inning for the Cardinals, securing the 9-1 mercy-rule win.  
 
GAME 2 – CUAA 6, RU 3 (seven innings) 
Emilee Underwood pitched a complete game, racking up 3 strikeouts.  Katie Tobias started the offense in the first inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Shannon McAlinden.   
In the second inning Payton Lewis hit an RBI single to drive in Bella Lee.  Jada Stephenson hit an RBI single score Sarah Tyrrell and Shannon McAlinden singled to send Payton Lewis home.  
Katie Tobias crushed a 2-run homer in the sixth inning to extend the lead.  Rochester Christian scored a run in the fourth and 2 runs in the seventh, but the Cardinals held on to secure the sweep.  
 
Concordia will host #20 Madonna this Wednesday, April 17th, for a doubleheader starting at 3pm.
