(South Bend, IN) – Concordia women's lacrosse traveled to Bethel on Friday afternoon for a WHAC conference matchup. The contest went down to the wire as the Cardinals tied the game 11-11 late, but the Pilots used a last-minute goal to narrowly claim the win.
Jennifer Miller led the Cardinals with 5 goals in the game. Taylor Nesbitt also notched a hat trick in the contest. Madalyn Fields led the team with 4 draw controls. Alana Mortimer had a team-high 3 caused turnovers.
Rachel Costello played a complete game in net, making 9 saves. Bethel struck first in the game, but the Cardinals tied the contest when Taylor Nesbitt scored her first goal of the game. Nicole Bordo notched a go-ahead goal with Greyson Papp drawing the assist, but the Pilots scored late in the quarter to tie the game 2-2.
Bethel used 3 unanswered goals to take the lead in the second quarter. The Cardinals ended the run when Greyson Papp converted a free position attempt with just over a minute to go. However, Bethel responded with a goal to lead 6-3 at halftime.
Jennifer Miller scored in the first minute of the third quarter. Taylor Nesbitt tacked on her second marker of the game with an assist by Madisyn Fox. Bethel countered with 3 goals to extend their lead, but Madisyn Fox countered with a marker. CUAA trailed 9-6 after the third quarter.
Bethel scored to start the fourth quarter, but Jennifer Miller began to take over the game on offense with a free position goal. Taylor Nesbitt completed her hat trick after taking a long pass from Rachel Costello and running a long distance to score. Miller finished her hat trick after slipping in a low shot on the goalie.
Jennifer Miller forced a turnover and drew a free position shot, converting the opportunity to cut the deficit to one goal. Miller tied the game 11-11 on another free position shot with 1:32 left to complete the rally. However, Bethel was able to convert with 15 seconds remaining and hung on to claim the 12-11 win.
Concordia will play again tomorrow when they travel to Indiana Tech at 11 am.
