Baseball earns two victories over Cleary on the road

(Howell, MI) - Concordia baseball traveled to Cleary on Wednesday afternoon for a WHAC doubleheader. After a stormy afternoon and delayed start time, the Cardinals earned two victories under the lights by scores of 5-0 and 3-1.

 

GAME 1 – CUAA 5, Cleary 0 (seven innings)

Bryon Mane was the starting pitcher in game one, notching 5 strikeouts in three innings. The Cardinals opened scoring in the second inning when Justin Kozlowski hit an RBI single scoring Logan Hylek. Taishin Matsushita then added a 2-run inside-the-park home run.

Drew Murphy pitched the last four innings of the game with 6 strikeouts. In the fourth inning, Aaron Garner made it home on a wild pitch. Tyler Lawson added an RBI groundout to drive in Jake Kuhlman.

The Cardinal defense maintained their shutout and turned a double play to close out the 5-0 win.

 

GAME 2 – CUAA 3, Cleary 1 (nine innings)

Ethan Pollard started game two on the mound pitching three innings with 3 strikeouts. Evan Jasiak pitched starting in the fourth inning, earning the win with 4 strikeouts in three innings.

The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when Tyler Lawson hit a 2-RBI double which scored Taishin Matsushita and Jake Kuhlman. Logan Hylek tacked on a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.

Kyle Winslow pitched the seventh inning with 1 strikeout. Blake Weaver pitched in the eighth inning and struck out all three batters he faced.

Drew Fleming picked up the save by pitching the ninth inning, making 1 strikeout and securing the 3-1 victory.

 

Concordia will return home this Saturday, April 20th, to host UNOH for a doubleheader starting at 1pm.
