(Ann Arbor, MI) – Concordia men's basketball hosted Goshen on Saturday afternoon to continue their season. Both teams came into the contest with a 2-2 record on the young season. CUAA pulled ahead in the first half and weathered a second-half Goshen run for a 70-57 win.
Devyn Jones had a double-double with a team-leading 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kip French had 12 points, shooting 3-7 from behind the arc. Colton Ritsema was also in double figures with 11 points.
Bernard Kasanda scored Concordia's first points with a quick layup. Matt Lockhart and Devyn Jones added early layups as the teams traded baskets. Devyn Jones started a 13-2 run with a layup that gave Concordia a 19-8 lead at the 11:26 mark. Zackary Johnson and Kip French added triples during the run.
D'Angelo Stoxstill converted an old-fashioned three-point play to extend the lead. Concordia continued to find success as Colton Ritsema scored inside for a 30-18 advantage. Matt Lockhart and Devyn Jones drove for layups late in the half and CUAA went up 37-29 at halftime.
Colton Ritsema converted inside to open scoring in the second half. Devyn Jones scored a layup, but Goshen used a 14-2 run to tie the game 43-43 with 12:57 remaining. Colton Ritsema put the Cardinals back ahead with a basket inside and Zackary Johnson drained two free throws.
Bernard Kasanda knocked down two free throws and Kip French hit a 3-pointer. Concordia pulled back ahead by double digits when Colton Ritsema drained a triple for a 61-50 lead at the 6:34 mark. Kip French drilled his third 3-pointer just over a minute later.
Zac Clark scored a layup as the Cardinals continued to maintain their lead. Colton Ritsema and Bernard Kasanda added late baskets and CUAA claimed the 70-57 win as time expired.
Concordia will begin WHAC conference play when they travel to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday, November 10. Tip-off is at 7:30pm.
